The hospitality and tourism industry is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the world. In South Dakota, visitor spending in 2005 was $807,029,057, a $2.02 billion impact on the state’s economy. This economic impact is expected to continue to grow. With this increase, there is a need for trained workers in the hospitality and tourism industry. In South Dakota, there has been a 14.18% increase in the number of employees in the industry in the past 10 years. Many aspects of this industry promote employees from within, a young part-time employee may work his/her way up to management in a short amount of time. Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism is designed to give high school students an overview of the opportunities, occupations and skills needed in this career cluster. The goals for this course are based on the National Family & Consumer Science standards and business & industry information.

Hospitality and Tourism to me has to do with travel and living arrangments. Hospitality from my point of view is the home in which people live, and the way they live their life as far as daily routine goes. When I think of tourism I think of traveling and seeing and trying many new things!

ReplyDeleteHospitality is a variety of foods and restaurants as well as cuizine from many different cultures. Tourism is sight seeing, exploring the area around you and learning the history of the area. Both of these give an inside to the type of culture you are learning about.

Providing information and other services to people is tourism. When working in this industry, you have to have the skills to talk to people and know the information to inform others about it.

Sherise , I believe Hospitality is being a very nice kind welcoming person to everyone. You are easy to talk to you and enjoyable to bearound. Tourism reminds me of traveling and learning about history. Both togethe remind me of such things as working at the Grand Lodge.

ReplyDeleteI feel that Hospitality and Tourism has to deal with organization and good communication skills. It is basically about being able to get menus ready and know how to organize an event as well. Also, being able to be fully trained in dealing with businesses and different types of people.
